fragments.The yellowed photograph is fragile between my fingers. It reads September 9, 1946. It is hard to believe that it was taken almost 50 years ago. One never notices time slipping away until it is almost gone. Already the photograph is disintegrating, as is my memory. I am afraid it will all turn to dust before my eyes. Abe and I are standing outside our adopted house. It wasn’t much to look at – it was brown, stale and dusty, yet it always felt like home. In the wake of the Rodney King case, and, I fear, in the calm before the storm, I am writing this last journal. I had asked my son to clear out the attic a few months ago, and he came across some of my ‘memorabilia’ from the 50s and 60s. He also found this journal.
